"THE REAL GERNIKA" Is a fictionalized 25 minutes short film about a Basque/American woman, Begonya Plaza, who visits Gernika with husband and new born child to meet the family. While visiting her grandfather’s grave, she comes across an American Brigade’s Veteran, played by the late, John Randolph, who turns out was a compatriot of her grandfather's during battle, when Americans volunteered on the side of the Republicans, against Franco. John and is also visiting from the States. Begonya and John walk around Gernika, visit the old sacred oak tree, and take a train ride to her family's caserio, secluded in the mountains. John communes with his old friend's family, as everyone eats, drinks, and talks of times past when Euskera was forbidden as their language.
