New Classes for a new year 2010!
At New York Children's Theater Lab children ages 5 through 12 come together to discover stories, words, and theater as they stretch their imagination and explore their sensibility.
New York Children's Theater Lab runs three month workshops, each ending with a filmed showcase performance and a DVD copy of that performance available to each student.
I started teaching these workshops when my daughter, Caterina, was 6 years old, and I find that at that early age is when children need to become familiarized with books, words, and a love for reading. Cat is now 17, and works as my assistant.
12 students are accepted in each class.
Saturdays 10:am to 12:pm
Thursdays after school / 4:00pm - 6:00pm
The class is structured so that children first become familiar with the body as an instrument of self-expression. It is an adventure through the physical, the voice, and the senses in order to connect with the written and spoken word.
In this playful environment children learn about drama, acting, improvisation, and articulation.
Part II: The children explore aspects of interpretation, through imaginary exercises connecting with text, emotions, and individual experiences.
While encouraging individuality, and uniqueness, children learn to work in an ensemble environment with the purpose of a common cause. Through rehearsals, and practice they learn to memorize text and create an emotionally charged final performance.
Not only will children learn about theater and acting, but also develop a special curiosity for the written word. Their pronunciation will improve, as well as their sense of relaxation and focus.
Final showcase is videotaped, and a copy of each child's performance is available for purchase.
Saturdays from 10:30 am to 12:00pm or Thursdays after school at 4:PM.
One scholarship is awarded to a student in need!
Cost of the course is $350.00
payable on a monthly basis.

This is a theater workshop for children ages 5 to 11. A workshop geared toward exploring storytelling, improvisation, diction, reading, communication and imagination.
Each session lasts three months, ending with a filmed showcase performance in which the child will take home a DVD of his/her final performance.
The classes are small and personable, they are carefully structured, yet openly flexible, creating an environment that is conducive to expansion and enjoyment.
After a couple of months your child will read, articulate and communicate with more fluency, and ease; developing a desire for reading, and questioning.
