Johnny Randolph and Thomas Berhhard

Johnny Randolph and Thomas Berhhard

Columbia University, NYC.

"Save Yourself if You Can" was the title of the play.
Two characters but I did most of the talking. Johnny came to see me perform, and it was the last time I saw him before visiting him in the hospital.
In 2004, upon arriving to Los Angeles, I called his home and his long time caretaker answered. "Hurry, go the hospital, John is not well." I went with my father never imagining it would be the last time. Johnny was dying, but he had enough energy in him to hold my hand very tight, and look me in the eyes, and whisper, "Thank you for the trips to Euskadi." The following day, Johnny passed on. Thank YOU, Johnny, for all the trips that you gave me through history, and the creative imagination. I'm sure you are in the space of milk and honey, as joyful as, ever next to your beloved wife, Sarah Cunningham. RIP.
